A Private Retreat in Bancroft: Where the Land Speaks and You Finally Listen
I came to Bancroft carrying more than a weekend bag to Liz & G’s sacred land. I brought exhaustion, noise from everyday life, and a quiet longing for something I couldn’t quite name. I’d heard people say this area holds a vortex - an energetic meeting point where the earth feels more alive. I didn’t come looking for proof. I came looking for rest.
What I found was something deeper.
From the moment I arrived, the stillness wrapped around me. The land itself seemed to slow everything down. Towering trees, moss-covered forest floors, and the soft hush of the red pine plantation created a sense of being held - safe, grounded, and unhurried.
The warm and genuine welcome from G & Liz made me feel at home immediately.
Each day unfolded gently. There was no agenda to chase, no pressure to perform. I forest bathed among ancient trees, letting the scent of pine and earth reset my nervous system in a way no screen or schedule ever could. Time felt different here - wider, softer.
Cold therapy became a powerful ritual. In summer, the cold tub shocked me into the present moment; in winter, the spring-fed lake offered a kind of clarity that words don’t do justice. It wasn’t about endurance - it was about surrender. Breath by breath, I felt layers of tension melt away.
Movement through the land was equally healing. Snowshoeing through the forest felt meditative, each step crunching away old thoughts. Ice skating on the frozen lake brought unexpected joy - a reminder of play, freedom, and simplicity.
The guided meditation and breathwork sessions anchored everything. In those moments of stillness, I felt deeply connected - not just to myself, but to the land beneath me. Meditating alone in the red pine plantation, surrounded by mossy ground and towering trunks, felt sacred. The quiet there wasn’t empty; it was full of presence.
Meals were a highlight in their own right. Gourmet, herb-infused dishes prepared with love nourished more than my body. Every bite felt intentional, grounding, and deeply comforting - food as medicine, food as care.
What surprised me most were the heart-centered conversations and spiritual guidance woven naturally throughout the retreat. There was no forcing, no fixing - just space to reflect, release, and realign. I felt seen without having to explain myself.
By the time I left, something had shifted. I felt lighter, clearer, and deeply restored. The noise I arrived with had softened. The connection I was seeking had found me - through the land, the water, the stillness, and the care infused into every detail of the experience by G & Liz.
Whether the vortex is something you can measure or simply something you feel, I know this: this land heals. And sometimes, all we need is the right place to remember who we are beneath the noise
