A Different Kind of Gathering: Experiencing Wellness on my own Land!
I didn’t expect much - just curious, honestly. I thought it would be a nice walk, maybe learn a few plant names, and enjoy some fresh air at my event I was hosting. What I didn’t expect was how deeply grounding the experience would feel… or how connected I’d feel to the land.
From the moment we gathered, it was clear this wasn’t a typical “workshop” or guided walk. There was no rush, no rigid schedule. Just an invitation to slow down and meet the land where it was - in this season, on this day.
Learning the Land Beneath My Feet
We began with a gentle foraging walk through the property, guided by “G” & Liz who clearly knew the land not just academically, but relationally. We learned to identify edible and medicinal plants, fungi, and wild foods growing naturally in the area - many of which I’d walked past countless times before without ever noticing.
What stood out most wasn’t just what we learned, but how it was shared. There was a strong emphasis on ethical harvesting, respect, and reciprocity - on taking only what’s offered and understanding the role each plant plays in the ecosystem.
It shifted something for me. The land stopped feeling like a backdrop and started feeling like a living participant in the experience.
Tasting the Forest
At one point, we paused to gather together and taste what the land had to offer.
We were served beautifully prepared wild-infused foods and teas - simple, intentional, and deeply nourishing. There was something powerful about tasting ingredients we had just learned about, standing right where they grew.
It made the experience feel complete. Learning, sensing, tasting—all woven together.
More Than Education - A Sense of Presence
What surprised me most was how calming the experience felt.
Between the foraging, there were moments of guided breathwork and grounding - nothing forced or overly structured. Just gentle invitations to arrive more fully in the body, to notice breath, sound, and sensation.
I didn’t realize how much tension I was carrying until it began to soften.
The combination of education, nature immersion, and wellness practices created a sense of ease that stayed with me long after the walk ended.
A Thoughtful Experience for Any Gathering
What struck me was how adaptable this experience felt. I could easily imagine it as part of a retreat, a private gathering, a special event, or something offered to guests visiting the property.
It wasn’t just informative - it was meaningful.
By the end, I felt more connected to the land, more aware of the season I was in, and more grounded in myself. It was the kind of experience that doesn’t demand transformation - but somehow delivers it quietly anyway.
Leaving With More Than I Came With
I left with knowledge, yes - but also with a deeper respect for the land I was standing on, and a renewed sense of presence I didn’t realize I’d been missing.
This wasn’t about doing more.
It was about remembering how to be.
