A Manager’s Perspective: Why One Hour Changed How Our Team Shows Up!

A Manager’s Perspective: Why One Hour Changed How Our Team Shows Up!

As a manager, I’m constantly balancing performance, deadlines, and the well-being of my team. Over the past few years, it’s become impossible to ignore how busy, reactive, and stretched workplaces have become. Even high-performing teams can quietly slip into burnout - less connection, more stress, and a noticeable dip in focus and creativity.

That’s why we decided to try Power Hour: Stronger Teams Through Wellness. I’ll admit, I was curious but cautious. One hour didn’t seem like much time to make a meaningful impact. I was wrong.

From the moment the session began, the tone shifted. The workshop was thoughtfully designed to fit into a real workday - no pressure, no awkwardness, and no need for anyone to be “good” at wellness. Through guided breathwork, mindfulness, gentle movement, and group reflection, our team was given permission to pause, reset, and simply breathe under the wonderful guidance of Liz and Gjergj “G“ Shkurti.

What stood out most was how practical the session felt. This wasn’t abstract theory- it was a hands-on reset. Employees learned simple techniques to calm their nervous system and regulate stress in real time. I could literally see shoulders drop, breathing slow, and faces soften as the hour progressed.

After the session, the difference was noticeable. Conversations felt more grounded. People were more present in meetings. There was a sense of shared experience that strengthened connection across the team. As a manager, that’s invaluable. When people feel supported mentally, emotionally, and physically, they show up with more energy, focus, and creativity.

What I appreciated most was the flexibility. The workshop was customized to meet our team’s needs, making it suitable for leadership, hybrid, or full-team sessions. The pre-session discovery ensured the content aligned with our goals, and the take-home tools meant the impact didn’t end when the hour was over. Some team members even shared they’d started using the breathwork techniques during stressful moments in their day.

The optional booster sessions are a brilliant addition. Wellness isn’t a one-off - it’s a practice. These shorter follow-ups help reinforce habits and keep momentum going without disrupting productivity.

From an organizational perspective, this initiative sent a powerful message: we care about our people. Supporting employee well-being directly influences morale, retention, and employer brand. A workplace that invests in its people is one they want to stay in - and contribute to.

If you’re wondering whether one hour can really make a difference, I can confidently say it can. Power Hour fits seamlessly into the workday and delivers real, measurable value - for individuals and for the team as a whole.

As leaders, we don’t need more hours in the day. We need smarter ways to support our teams. This was one of them.
